STATEMENT OF FAITH
The following is not a particularly comprehensive statement of faith, but it does answer certain basic questions that are fundamental to our beliefs.
Who are we?
We are a group of friendly people, of all ages and many backgrounds.
What are we?
We are Christians, by which we mean that we are committed to Jesus Christ. We understand that Jesus is God; that he was born a man; and that He lived and died around 2,000 years ago. His well-recorded violent death had this eternal purpose: God gave Jesus, His only Son, to suffer and die on the cross to settle the debt for all our sin.
Why are we Christians?
God has explained his standards for our lives in the Bible. We admit that we have failed to meet them, and that we are unable to do anything to put things right. We have turned to God the Father in our need, and asked Him to forgive us. In fulfilment of His promise given in the Bible; because of His amazing love for man; and because Jesus took our punishment, God has put away our past rebellion against Him, and made us His children, taking us into His family and promising us life after death. He has changed our hearts, so that while at one time we lived as though God did not exist and did what we thought was right, now we strive to live our lives as He has commanded in the Bible, and as Jesus has showed us by His example.
What do we do?
We Praise and Worship
We understand that God made us to worship and praise Him and to have a relationship with Him. We want to worship the God who has saved us, and given us new purpose and a glorious future and hope.
We Preach and Study
We understand that the only way that we can know God is through understanding the teachings of the Bible. For this reason, our services are centred on the preaching of the Bible. We also hold classes, or study periods, on Sunday mornings at 10.00 am. We have classes for all ages from 4 to really quite old – our largest group is for adults.
We Pray
We enjoy and really value our relationship with God the Father, and so we want to pray to Him. We do this in our personal lives, but also join together to pray in our church life.
We Give, and want Others to Hear the Good News of the Bible
We support the work of the Church both with our time and our finances. We want others to find forgiveness from God for their sin, and to know the peace and joy of the Christian life, so we work to bring the message of the Bible to those we know and those who live near the Church.
